DescriptionTricholomopsis formosa (Murrill) Singer 770206 crop.jpg |
Tricholomopsis formosa (Murrill) Singer Image location: Helmetta Pond Area in Jamesburg Park, East Brunswick, New Jersey, USA An NJMA collection found at the joint Thompson Park (Jamesburg)/Helmetta Pond (Helmetta & E. Brunswick) foray. NJMA experts tried in vane to ID this critter, but it’s likely not a Flammulaster or Cystoderma sp. Apparently growing on a conifer log in a disjunct section of the extreme northwestern outlier of the typical Pine Barrens habitat of oak-pine woods, Atlantic white cedar bog and sandy soil. The mushrooms didn’t produce a spore print, but under a microscope the spores were round and hyaline according to Nina Burghardt (the attached microscopy photos are Nina’s). Thus, the spore print is likely white or very light in color. The specimens have been preserved. Recognized by sight
