Summary edit

Description Drift Collection Vessel Hayward tows a roughly 60-foot long deceased fin whale estimated to weigh 55-60 tons to the boat lift at the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Caven Point Marine Terminal in Jersey City, N.J., on Wednesday April 16 where professionals associated with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and from various other partner agencies and groups conducted a necropsy to determine the whale’s cause of death. The whale was located in the New York Harbor earlier in the week and was secured to a barge to prevent it from being a hazard to navigation in the time before Wednesday’s necropsy.
