Summary edit

Description

ARGONNE NATIONAL LABORATORY RESEARCHER ATTACHES AN X-RAY SAMPLE HOLDER CARTRIDGE MADE WITH A 3-D PRINTER TO THE DETECTOR AT THE CHEMMATCARS BEAMLINE.

Scientists can conduct studies remotely by sending in horizontal strip sample holders designed with the 3-D printer to hold various sizes of solid, liquid, gel, metal, and semi-sold samples. Use of the polymer sample holders instead of machined metal holders, saves several hundred to several thousand dollars per sample, reduces sample processing time to one day compared to several weeks, and enables a program of mail-in samples for studying remotely.
