THE STAR DETECTOR AT BROOKHAVEN'S RELATIVISTIC HEAVY ION COLLIDER (RHIC).

THE STAR DETECTOR, ONE OF FOUR AT THE RELATIVISTIC HEAVY ION COLLIDER, TRACKS AND ANALYZES THE THOUSANDS OF PARTICLES THAT MAY BE PRODUCED BY EACH GOLD ION COLLISION INSIDE THE DETECTOR. THE FIRST COLLISION TOOK PLACE ON JUNE 12, 2000, CONTRIBUTING TO THE FURTHER UNDERSTANDING OF THE FUNDAMENTAL NATURE OF MATTER.
