Description

THE EAST GATE TO THE DEPARTMENT OF ENERGY'S PANTEXT PLANT.

THE PANTEX PLANT, LOCATED ON THE HIGH PLAINS OF THE TEXAS PANHANDLE, NEAR AMARILLO, IS CHARGED WITH MAINTAINING THE SAFETY, SECURITY AND RELIABILITY OF AMERICA'S NUCLEAR WEAPONS STOCKPILE. THE FACILITY HAS FIVE PRIMARY OPERATIONAL MISSIONS WHICH INCLUDE NUCLEAR WEAPONS ASSEMBLY, DISASSEMBLE, EVALUATION, HIGH EXPLOSIVE RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT AND INTERIM PLUTONIUM PIT STORAGE.
