English: New Orleans: U S Army Corps of Engineers and its construction partners continued with repairs at the 17th Street Canal Permanent Canal Closures and Pumps. Personnel removed several pieces of equipment from the bay of Pump 1, including the discharge elbow pictured here, which is one of the parts water passes through as it exits into Lake Pontchartrain. These pieces are being trucked to an off-site facility for repairs while the formed suction intake (FSI) inside the bay of Pump 1 is being repaired on-site. The FSI is where water from the canal enters the pump during a storm event. Once repairs of the FSI and other pump portions are complete, the newly-repaired pump parts will be brought back to the PCCP for reassembly. |
