(Nov. 9, 2002) -- Sailors assigned to the newly commissioned destroyer USS Preble (DDG 88) man the rails as the guided missile destroyer is “brought to life” and into naval service. The guided missile destroyer is the 64th Aegis-class warship to be commissioned during a traditional Navy ceremony in South Boston's Commonwealth Pier. Ceremony participants are (from left) are Dr. Philip A. Dur, Rear Adm. (Ret.), Rear Adm. William W. Cobb, Jr., Program Officer for Theater Surface Combatant Ships, Admiral Vern Clark, Chief of Naval Operations, and Mrs. Connie Rae Clark Preble.
