English: Staten Island University Hospital, Staten Island, N.Y. (Dec 6, 2002) -- Aerographer’s Mate 1st Class Nathan W. Anderson from Springfield, Mo., presents a patient with a USS Saipan (LHA 2) command ball cap during a recent visit by Sailors from the Tarawa-class amphibious warship. The Saipan Sailors are participating in the “Caps for Kids” program, spearheaded by the Navy Office of Information Southwest under the direction of Lt. Cmdr. Jack Todd. The program encourages commands to provide ball caps with their respective ship, squadron, or command emblem for donation to pediatric clinics and hospitals across the nation. Along with each ball cap, children also receive an “Honorary Sailor” certificate and a copy of “All Hands” magazine, a Navy internal information periodical. The Navy brought the program aboard in 1998 and has more than 300 ships, submarines, squadrons, commands, and individual Sailors participating.
