English: The Mediterranean Sea (Mar. 7, 2003) -- Information Systems Technician 2nd Class Colleen White does preventative maintenance on battle lantern lights aboard USS Harry S. Truman (CVN 75). Battle lanterns, powered by dry-cell batteries, are hand lanterns provided to give emergency light when the ship's service and emergency/alternate lighting systems fail. These lanterns are placed in spaces where continual illumination is necessary, such as machinery spaces, control rooms, essential watch stations, battle dressing stations, and escape hatches. The Truman and Carrier Air Wing Three (CVW-3) are deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. U.S. Navy Photo by Photographer's Mate 3rd Class Danny Ewing Jr. (RELEASED) |
