English: The Arabian Gulf (Apr. 1, 2003) -- A flight deck director positions an F-14D Tomcat assigned to the ‘Tomcatters’ of Fighter Squadron Thirty-One (VF-31) for launch from one of four steam powered catapults on the flight deck aboard USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN 72). Abraham Lincoln and Carrier Air Wing Fourteen (CVW-14) are currently conducting combat operations in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Operation Iraqi Freedom is the multi-national coalition effort to liberate the Iraqi people, eliminate Iraq's weapons of mass destruction, and end the regime of Saddam Hussein.
