Description
English: Norfolk, Va. (Apr. 16, 2004) - Sen. John Warner, (R-VA) attended the ceremony marking the 60th anniversary of the battleship USS Wisconsin (BB 64), and participated in a wreath-laying ceremony. Sailors assigned to the nuclear powered aircraft carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN 71) manned the rails of the historic battleship. Also on hand for the ceremony were Rep. Bobby Scott (D-VA) and Rep. Ed Schrock (R-VA), Rear Adm. Stephen Turcotte, Commander of the Navy's Mid-Atlantic Region and Norfolk Mayor Pail Fraim. The ceremony included remarks from dignitaries to hundreds of Wisconsin veterans and Hampton Roads citizens who attended the celebration. The famous dreadnought, commissioned April 16, 1944, saw action during World War II, Korea and Dessert Storm. Today, Wisconsin is an exhibit of the Hampton Roads Naval Museum on the downtown Norfolk-Va. waterfront. In the past three years, the ship has hosted more than a million visitors, offering a glimpse into Navy history. U.S. Navy photo by Don Kennedy. (RELEASED)
