English: Atlantic Ocean (July 24, 2004) – The Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS Harry S. Truman (CVN 75) Commanding Officer, Capt. Michael R. Groothousen, shoots a pair of boots off one of four steam-powered catapults on the ship’s flight deck. The tradition of catapulting boots over the side signifies that this is the last at-sea period for Capt Groothousen aboard Truman. The Truman recently completed Majestic Eagle 04, a multinational exercise conducted off the coast of Morocco. The exercise demonstrates the combined force capabilities and quick response times of the participating naval, air, undersea and surface warfare groups. Countries involved in the U.S.-led exercise include the United Kingdom, Morocco, France, Italy, Portugal, Spain, and Turkey. U.S. Navy photo by Photographer's Mate Airman Jay C. Pugh (RELEASED) |
