English: Arabian Gulf (July 27,2004) - Aviation Ordnanceman tighten down the retainer ring of a MK-82 500lb general-purpose bomb aboard USS John F. Kennedy (CV 67). Kennedy and her embarked Carrier Air Wing Seventeen (CVW-17) are on deployment conducting missions in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF), and Summer Pulse 2004. Summer Pulse is the deployment of seven carrier strike groups (CSGs), demonstrating the ability of the Navy to provide credible combat capability across the globe, in five theaters with other U.S., allied, and coalition military forces, under its new Fleet Response Plan (FRP). The Kennedy is presently steaming through the Persian Gulf in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and the Navy's new Fleet Readiness Program; Summer Pulse. The Kennedy is one of seven aircraft carriers involved in the Summer Pulse 2004 Exercise. Summer Pulse 2004 is the simultaneous deployment of seven aircraft strike groups (CSGs), demonstrating the ability of the Navy to provide credible combat across the globe, in five theaters with other U.S., allied, and coalition military forces.
