Nitze and friends after he was presented a Bronze Star at a ceremony held at the U.S. Navy Memorial in Washington, D.C. Cmdr. Hegarty was recognized for personally developing port and river operation plans for Umm Qasr, Iraq, ensuring proper management of facilities and rivers to move vital humanitarian assistance, reconstruction and military supplies during Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF).
