English: Persian Gulf (Feb. 2, 2005) – Aviation Ordnancemen, assigned to the "Swordsmen" of Fighter Squadron 32 (VF-32), lift a 500-pound GBU-12 laser guided bomb onto a weapon station on one of their squadron’s F-14B Tomcats aboard the Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS Harry S. Truman (CVN 75). The GBU-12 Paveway II bomb series are 500 pound “smart weapons” that follow a laser beam to a target which is illuminated by either an aircraft or a laser designator operator on the ground. Carrier Air Wing Three (CVW-3) is embarked aboard Truman and is providing close air support and conducting intelligence surveillance and reconnaissance over Iraq. The Truman Carrier Strike Group is on a regularly scheduled deployment in support of the global war on terrorism. U.S. Navy photo by Photographer's Mate 3rd Class Justin S. Osborne (RELEASED) |
