English: Gonaives, Haiti (April 23, 2005) - U.S. Congressman Kendrick Meek (FL-D), left, and the U.S. Ambassador to Haiti, Honorable James Foley, right, speak with the director of the Nativite School in Gonaives, Haiti. A high level U.S. delegation including Meek, Congressman Jeff Miller (FL-R) and Commander, U.S. Southern Command (SOUTHCOM), Gen. Bantz Craddock, visited the projects conducted by Task Force New Horizons in Haiti. New Horizons Haiti is one of the SOUTHCOM's sponsored humanitarian exercises being conducted in Central America and the Caribbean this year. Seabees, Soldiers and Marines deployed to Haiti as part of Exercise New Horizons have built three school houses, drilled three potable water wells and conducted free health care clinics servicing nearly 9,000 people in Gonaives. The New Horizons program is designed to provide U.S. engineering and medical units a realistic training environment while fostering goodwill with the nations of Central and South America and the Caribbean.
