English: Gonaives, Haiti (May 5, 2005) - The Minister of Education for the interim Haitian government Mr. Pierre Buteau, left, U.S. Deputy Chief of Mission for Haiti, Mr. Douglas Griffiths, center, and Commander U.S. Naval Forces Southern Command, Rear Adm. Vinson Smith, cut a ribbon celebrating the completion of a classroom built by U.S. military personnel during Exercise New Horizons. New Horizons is a three-month humanitarian and civic assistance mission in Haiti sponsored by commander U.S. Southern Command. The Task Force conducting New Horizons built schools, drilled potable water wells and conducted free health clinics. New Horizons provided relevant training to U.S. engineering and medical units while fostering goodwill among the U.S. and nations in the Americas. U.S. Navy photo by Photographer’s Mate 1st Shawn P.
