English: Kuwait Navy Base, Camp Patriot, Kuwait (May 22, 2005) - Commander, U.S. Naval Forces Central Command/Commander, U.S. 5th Fleet Vice Adm. David C. Nichols, Jr. shakes hands with Kuwaiti Chief of Naval Forces, Maj. Gen. Ahmed Y. Al-Mulla. The two met to discuss joint training and a way to foster greater cooperation between the two Navies. Kuwait is one of the United States staunchest allies in the Persian Gulf and annually conduct joint training exercises and continue to look at coordinating more in the future. Both Navies conduct Maritime Security Operations in the Arabian Gulf that set the conditions for security and stability in the maritime environment as well as complement the counter-terrorism and security efforts. These operations continue to deny international terrorists use of the gulf as a venue for attack or to transport personnel, weapons, or other material.
