Having fun while training is always the best combination for the crew onboard USS Ashland (LSD 48). Ship's fire marshal, Damage Controlman 1st Class Thomas carow and Hull Technician 2nd Class Daniel Shain provide instruction to fire teams on proper procedures for handling a fire hose. Sailors from USS Ashland's (LSD 48) at sea fire party gatherer in the well deck to conduct live hose handling training. This training is necessary to build confidence and experience for hose handlers in the event of an actual fire. Safety is paramount while showing the crew proper stance, procedures, and techniques as the fire marshall and Damage Controlmen 1st Class Thomas Carow run drills. USS Ashland (LSD 48) is currently conducting Maritime Interception Operations (MIO) in the Northern Arabian Gulf. MIO are being conducted within international waters of the U.S. Central Command Area of Responsibility. These operations are aimed at interrupting the flow of personnel and material that may support international terrorist organizations within the scope of Maritime Security Operations (MSO). MSO sets the condition for security and stability in the maritime environment. MSO complement the counter-terrorism and security efforts of regional nations. MSO deny international terrorists use of the maritime environment as a venue for attack or to transport personnel, weapons, or other material.
