English: Gulf of Mexico (Aug. 29, 2005) – GOES-12 Satellite image provided by the U.S. Naval Research Laboratory, Monterey, Calif., showing the status of Hurricane Katrina, at 1015Z or just after 5am EST. The storm crossed South Florida Thursday and headed back to sea in the Gulf of Mexico. The storm's wind is now in excess of 150 mph, a category 4 storm. The National Hurricane Center reported that the Northern wall of Katrina's made landfall at approximately 5am CST, just east of Grande Isle, La. U.S. Navy photo (RELEASED) |
