English: South China Sea (Dec. 6, 2005) - Fire Controlman 3rd Class Joseph Gallagher and Fire Controlman 3rd Class Chris Foster download a RIM-116 Rolling Airframe Missile (RAM) from its launcher prior to performing a routine maintenance check aboard the conventionally powered aircraft carrier USS Kitty Hawk (CV 63). A RAM is a 5-inch missile that utilizes Sidewinder missile technology for the warhead and rocket motor, and the Stinger missile's seeker-head. The launcher system comes in either a 21-round or an 11-round launcher. Kitty Hawk and embarked Carrier Air Wing Five (CVW-5) are currently conducting operations in the Western Pacific Ocean.
