English: Arlington, Va. (April 4, 2006) - The joint service honor guard places the casket of former Secretary of Defense Caspar W. Weinberger at its final resting place in Arlington National Cemetery. Weinberger took office on Jan. 21, 1981, and served until Nov. 23, 1987, making him the longest serving defense secretary to date. During his tenure in office, Weinberger spearheaded President Ronald Reagan's peacetime military buildup. Weinberger died on March 28, 2006, at the age of 88.
