Image title | NGINYANG, Kenya -- August 5, 2006 -- After a morning of heavy rain, the Nginyang River expanded. Kenyan Army soldiers watch as U.S. Marine Humvees and 7-Ton Amphibious trucks power through the strong current. The Nginyang River runs parallel to the primary road on which U.S. and East African Community Forces travel to reach exercise Natural Fire locations and camps. In order to reach the exercise locations the road crosses the river twice. Both locations proved impossible to cross early in the day. But, as the day progressed, some vehicles were able to cross the river, while others waited until morning.
Natural Fire 2006, a 10-day multi-lateral training exercise involving Kenyan, Tanzanian, Ugandan and United States servicemembers, begins Aug. 8 and is the largest combined exercise between Eastern African Community nations and the U.S. The exercise is set to provide medical, civil and engineering civic affairs programs to rural areas in Tanzania, Uganda and Kenya as well as hold military to military training exercises, which will help all participants better respond to humanitarian crises.
