English: PEARL HARBOR, Hawaii (Feb. 21, 2007) Following a brief tour of the Pearl Harbor-based guided-missile destroyer USS Russell (DDG 59), a Sailor salutes as the Secretary of Defense Robert M. Gates departs the ship. After the tour, a press conference was held pier side at Naval Station Pearl Harbor. Gates commented on "what appears to be a very successful operation" regarding the guided-missile cruiser USS Lake Erie's (CG 70) SM-3 missile intercepting a malfunctioning U.S. reconnaissance satellite and the "incredible quality, dedication and skill of the men and women in uniform."
