Description
English: YUMA, Ariz. (May 25, 2011) A Persistent Ground Surveillance System (PGSS) aerostats undergoes pre-deployment testing at a U.S. Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR) training facility. Developed by NAVAIR's special surveillance program (SSP), the PGSS deploys in theater with reserve component and contractor personnel to provide force protection for forward operating bases in the U.S. Central Command area of responsibility. SSP created a working PGSS demonstration in less than 60 days, and first went operational in April 2010. (U.S. Navy photo/Released)
