Summary
editDescriptionUnder the Wolverhampton Wishbone - geograph.org.uk - 1456371.jpg |
English: Under the Wolverhampton Wishbone Tram No 15 is waiting to complete the crossing of the ring road prior to entering the terminus another hundred metres ahead.
The large metal structure, known locally as the "wishbone bridge" carries the tramway across the sunken landscaped walkways inside the large roundabout road system. http://www.tgp.co.uk/news/articles/wishbone.html A recent "facelift" leaves it providing even more photogenic curves! The Midland Metro opened on 30th May 1999. It is a 12½ mile tram-line between Wolverhampton and Birmingham with a short on-street section in Wolverhampton, the rest following the former Great Western Railway trackbed (closed in 1972). The trams are powered by 750 volt DC electric current supplied though overhead power cables. |
