Dr. Jay Cho, a BSEE Research Project Manager, inspects acoustic sensors mounted on an Autonomous Underwater Vehicle (AUV). This AUV and its sensor package was tested at Ohmsett to evaluate how this technology could be used for measuring the thickness of oil spills. During a spill, emergency responders want to deploy their recovery equipment to the spill’s thickest patches. BSEE’s Oil Spill Preparedness Division manages research and development projects such as this to provide offshore owners and operators and other stakeholders with new or improved technologies, tools, and tactics to combat oil spills.
