(history here) Mining ceased in 1969 but the combine diversified into many avenues of metallurgy, this Iron Pyrites mine "unity" in the Harz being one of them. After 1990, the Albert Funk combine became Saxonia AG Metallhütten- und Verarbeitungswerke before the expected rounds of rationalisation, asset stripping, closures etc. At its peak the Kombinat employed 20,000.Albert Funk was a communist miner , born in Zwickau, but active in the Ruhr, who was elected to the Reichstag in 1930.
