Description
English: The starboard cathead of the warship Vasa, displayed in the Vasa Museum in Stockholm, Sweden. Picture taken inside the ship from the upper gun deck looking toward starboard out through the openings in the bow. The wooden sculpture beneath the cathead represents a Polish noble performing a ritual of self-mortification by hiding under a table. The motif is intended to ridicule Poles, enemies of Sweden at the time of Vasas construction in the 1620s.
