Description
The sculpture, consisting of a bronze sculpture on a light-coloured stone block, depicts the Genesis Creation story. Centrally, a dominant right hand rises vertically above an irregularly round form in front of a cloud-like mass of water. It is the hand that separates light from darkness and heaven from earth. Each bears as its title the ordinal number of the day in question in the story of Creation. On the circular base of the metal sculpture, medallion-like reliefs symbolise the first six days of Creation story. The seventh day is in the process of creation: To the left of the creating hand, an angular form with the heading 7. Tag (7th Day) forms from the surges. A protruding band runs horizontally centred over the sides of the stone cuboid on which the metal sculpture stands, the width of which corresponds to about half the height of the coboid. On the front it says SCHÖPFUNG (i. e. Creation) at the top right of this band.
The sculpture is located between the Catholic St Joseph's Church and the cemetery in Widnau, Canton St Gallen, Switzerland.
