English: Early cleavages and timing of gastrulation are unaffected in cybrid embryos. Animal view of the diverse kinds of X. laevis egg-based embryos reveals that haploid [ l ]x l (middle) and [ l ]x t cybrid (bottom) embryos cleave and begin gastrulation synchroneously, about 50 minutes after diploid l x l (top) embryos. A star was added to the right of embryos at the onset of gastrulation (stage 10), when embryo-wide cellular movements begin. Images were captured every 4 minutes at ∼26°C, and displayed at a rate of 10 images per second.

This file was selected as the media of the day for 10 December 2012. It was captioned as follows:
English: Genetically different frog embryos developing in eggs of one species, Xenopus laevis: a diploid laevis x laevis is shown on the top, cleaving and entering gastrulation about 50 min earlier than haploid [laevis] x laevis embryos (middle) and cybrid [laevis] x tropicalis (bottom) embryos. A co-author of the video, John Gurdon, receives the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine today, jointly with Shinya Yamanaka.
