Nederlands: Identificatie Titel(s): Xhosa-stamhoofd Mahot(t), i met een assegaai in zijn linkerhand Objecttype: tekening albumblad Objectnummer: RP-T-1914-17-70 Opschriften / Merken: annotatie, opgeplakt strookje onder blad, handgeschreven in bruine inkt: ‘Mahotti Caffer Captein’, handschrift van Sch Vervaardiging Vervaardiger: tekenaar: Robert Jacob Gordon Datering: ca. 1776 - 1777 Fysieke kenmerken: pen en penseel in zwarte inkt, penseel in waterverf in groen, grijs, zwart, lichtbruin, geel en enig blauw, gehoogd met witte dekverf Materiaal: papier dekverf inkt Techniek: penseel / pen Afmetingen: albumblad: h 660 mm × b 480 mmblad: h 355 mm × b 219 mm Toelichting Gordon does not record meeting Mahote during any of his travels. But he does remark, on 12 December 1777, that Swellengrebel, on his journey of 1776, had mistaken in thinking that he had visited Mahote when it was in fact his son Hees. It is therefore possible that this drawing was made by Schumacher during Swellengrebel’s journeys.
