Description
Nederlands: WOUDRICHEM - Donderdag 25 oktober zijn de typerende wilgen op het Ravelijn gekapt in opdracht van de gemeente Woudrichem. De kap was noodzakelijk, de bomen waren in slechte conditie door de 'watermerkziekte'.

Watermerkziekte treedt vooral op in bomen die ouder zijn dan 10 jaar. Bladeren verwelken en takdelen sterven van buiten naar binnen zowel in top als midden van kroon af. Het risico bestaat dat afgestorven takken uitbreken. Bomen met een verhaal vanuit de historie, de huidige bomen zijn net na de oorlog op we wal geplant.

In overleg met Wourkummer Weelde, een bewonersinitatief, worden nieuwe fruitbomen terug gepland. Voor de herplant is vooral gekeken naar de situatie aan het begin van de 19e eeuw. Ook ontplooien zij diverse initiatieven om de biodiversiteit te bevorderen en de groene aanblik van de Vesting te bewaren.
