What did happen the days after the battle?

Where did the german ships Gneisenau, Leipzig, Nürnberg and Scharnhorst sink? The Dresden rescued. There are mountains in Canada named after the ships involved in this battle. There was an expedition in 2006 under leadership of Frank Meutzner in honory of the 800th anniversary of the foundation of the capital of Saxony, Dresden. Meutzner is the organizer of the worldwide most viewed Mountain Film Festival "Bergsichten", held every November at Technical University Dresden.

The first four German ships were all sunk in the Battle of the Falkland Islands, on December 8; see File:Falklandschlacht.jpg for a contemporary map. Dresden escaped, as you say, but was scuttled three months later, on being cornered in the Juan Fernández Islands west of Chile.
