@Language Boi: This is a good work you did here, but I recommend you revert the change and upload the current version of this image as a new file. Some uses of this file include cases of detailed captions and descriptions which become incorrect or incomprehensible after your addition of a side-by-side rerendering. -- Tuválkin 11:40, 25 March 2023 (UTC)Reply

If you don’t have a qualm, I’ll therefore revert your addition of cleaned up letterforms, as it’s now at File:5×4clicksBeachKhoekhoe(TNR).png, and restore the fac simile nature of this image. -- Tuválkin 15:58, 2 April 2023 (UTC)Reply

Letterforms

edit

@Language Boi: I’m nothing if not nitpicky, so here’s two remarks on the letterforms used in the side-by-side rerendering:

  • "ʗ" should look like a "c" with an elongated vertical line, the lachrymal upper tip being very distintive in a serif font like TMR (just edit a regular "c", duplicate the two nodes in the middle, and drag the lower half down to the descender line);
  • the top of the "ʖ" should look like the top of other tall letters with a naked stem, such as "h", "k", or "l", with a single serif, facing back with a downward angle — not really an upside-down "ʔ", the same way an "u" is not exactly an upside-down "n".

Meanwhile I noticed that the poor letterforms I chided you for are from Times New Roman itself (the version bundled with Win10 we both seem to be afflicted with), not your own attempt at hand drawing. That being the case, I can only commend you for having corrected the vertical placement of "ʇ" on the baseline, and I’ll go ahead and make my own attempt at rendering these 20 spellings from Beach as an improvement of yours. Dankon pro via inspiro tiucele! -- Tuválkin 08:35, 27 March 2023 (UTC)Reply
And meanwhile I stood on your shoulders, as they say, and further improved the Times New Roman rendering of this sample text in File:5×4clicksBeachKhoekhoe(TNR).png — implementing the corrections suggested above and a few minor ones (you can see in the file history a temporary stage of my modifications to your work, with x-heighs in cyan, your originals in green, and TMR letterforms in red).
The only thing I didn’t touch was the curly "ǂ": It stands to reason that its top should match that of an "f" and its bottom that of an "j", just like a "ʃ" does — but I have no artistry skills on the ready to stretch a delicate shape like that without ruining its calligraphy.

That makes sense. I was just too lazy to do those -- and didn't really notice them at all lol.
I made the letterforms in Affinity Designer (vector). If you want the SVG I can send it! Dankon. Language Boi (talk) 00:21, 8 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
An SVG version would be sweet! -- Tuválkin 08:37, 8 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
