Revert to original?

It has been suggested that this images should be reverted to the original, and the present version uploaded as a new file, on the grounds that the changes to the image could be viewed as substantial. Also, the original image is a featured image on Wikipedia and the new version has not gone through the nomination process. Does anyone have any views on this?
