Why aren't the UK and Ireland coloured yellow? thanks, Sunil060902 (talk) 15:41, 14 December 2015 (UTC)
- They are not "Legally obliged to join", they have a formal opt-out under the Amsterdam Treaty. See W:Schengen Area#EU member states with opt outs. They have voluntarily incorporated much of the Schengen acquis, but still retain (together, as part of their own Common Travel Area) a controlled border with the Schengen Area. - I see now. OK, thanks. I'm sure I've seen your map shown in some WP articles as merely a "Schengen Area" versus "EU but outside Schengen" thing. thanks, Sunil060902 (talk) 14:31, 16 December 2015 (UTC)

Updated map to show temporary imposition of border controls
editGreenland
editShould Greenland also be listed under "open border"? http://naalakkersuisut.gl/en/About-government-of-greenland/About-Greenland/Coming-to-Greenland/Schengen-and-Tourists — Preceding unsigned comment was added by 83.145.208.115 (talk) 09:28, 9 September 2017 (UTC)

Andorra is De Facto Schengen
editThis image needs updating. https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Map_of_the_Schengen_Area.svg This link proves this. https://andorraguides.com/visa/schengen/ HelpfulHens (talk) 20:33, 10 July 2023 (UTC)
- The link you provided doesn't prove Andorras status. Quote: "Andorra has not yet signed on to the Schengen Agreement, meaning it is necessary to pass through border control when travelling into/out of the country, either via Spain or France". Xolani (talk) 18:14, 4 January 2024 (UTC)
- @Xolani: Could you please face Andorra light-blue? Andorra is a de-facto-Schengen-member. Thx. --Opihuck (talk) 14:00, 2 April 2024 (UTC)
- @Opihuck I've seen your discussion, but I'm not really sure I follow. Are there actual sources for the fact that there are no border controls? "Mainly focusing on customs" is not the same as "Only focussing on customs", right? Xolani (talk) 21:59, 2 April 2024 (UTC)
- No. See here: https://www.auswaertiges-amt.de/de/service/visa-und-aufenthalt/schengen/207786#content_6 Custom controls are no passenger controls. Schengen has nothing to do with custom controls. Look at the German-Swiss border: The countries both are schengen members although with still existing custom controls. --Opihuck (talk) 08:37, 3 April 2024 (UTC)
- I've changed Andorra, finally :) Xolani (talk) 17:41, 1 June 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you very much indeed :-) --Opihuck (talk) 18:11, 1 June 2024 (UTC)
- @Nablicus Maybe you want to check out this discussion before reverting? Source seemed solid. Xolani (talk) 08:43, 15 June 2024 (UTC)
- Also, color scheme was changed for accessibility reasons. If the outcome of this discussion is "Andorra does not have open borders", then please change the circle to gray, don't revert. Xolani (talk) 08:52, 15 June 2024 (UTC)
- The reference above only says that Andorra does not have any border controls to the Schengen area. It does not say that the Schengen area does not have any border controls to Andorra. There are clearly border control points at the Andorran border listed by the European Commission, see 'La Seo de Urgel' and 'Pas de la Case-Porta' in the consolidated list of border control points of the Schengen area. By contrast, there are no listed border control points at the borders to Monaco, San Marino, and the Vatican; they indeed have open borders to the Schengen area. Sorry for reverting your edit, but I was not able to just change the color of Andorra. --Nablicus (talk) 08:59, 15 June 2024 (UTC)
- I'm not sure I'm able to overwrite again, without asking for overwriting privileges again. But in any case, I feel like this debate has been going in circles for too long. As a neutral observer I wonder, what conflict resolution mechanisms exist for such cases on Commons? @Nablicus @Opihuck you both seem quite convinced of your position.... Xolani (talk) 09:42, 22 June 2024 (UTC)
- The situation is very odd. There is no legal basis for the relaxed border controls and there are some official border control points, but still the border is de facto open. Very few, if any, get controlled when passing. I contacted the European Commission to get this clarified. I therefore now agree that the map should indicate that the border to Andorra is open. --Nablicus (talk) 09:45, 22 June 2024 (UTC)

The lake near Luxembourg in the map
editI think there's an error in the map, as it shows four lakes in Central Europe. Three of them are obvious: Lake Geneva, Lake Balaton and Lake Constance, but what is the thing where approximately Luxembourg or eastern Belgium is? ϒpsilon (talk) 13:07, 31 August 2024 (UTC)
