The gallery "Meyers Konversations-Lexikon" (MKL) was created by long-term user Wikid77 (me), on 23 October 2010, as a pictorial overview of the massive, 17,500+ pages of Meyers Lexikon, using the gallery concept of "best of the media". This gallery also provides an anchor point for discussing the contents of the various 10 editions of Meyers Lexikon. The main version has been "4. Auflage" (4th edition, MKL4, 1885-1890), but other volumes might have some public-domain contents. -Wikid77 04:45, 28 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

Over 5000 images available

28-Oct-2010: Because some full-page illustrations contain collections 10, 20, or 40 drawings, I think there are over 5,000 illustrated items in MKL4. Hence, as of 2010, some Wikipedia articles still lack images, which can be extracted from Meyers MKL. With the preference for pictures rather than old text, people had uploaded most Meyers images by 2005, years before the 16,300 text pages were uploaded. However, even the text is, in a sense, all images: excerpts of the typesetting and font styles can be used, as in the gallery for Fraktur font, to show the book-printing or hyphenation style, as used in the late 1880s. -Wikid77 (talk) 04:45, 28 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

28-Oct-2010: Published in 1885-1890 (before 1923), the edition MKL4 is public domain in the U.S. The last known author, among the group Autorenkollektiv who wrote edition MKL4, was a long-lived youngster who died in 1939 (I think), 49 years after publication, despite the 1918 Spanish Flu & World War I. Perhaps, WWII was his demise. Under U.S. copyright law, anything published before 1923-01-01 is public domain, inside the U.S. Otherwise, a corporate publication is protected for 95 years, such as 1932-2027. The MKL4 had 2 extra volumes published, as 2 Supplements, Volumes 18 & 19, in 1891 and 1892. Those 2 books contain update pages, such as town populations, plus some new articles and pictures, rather than being mere index volumes to the earlier 17 volumes from 1885-1890. The wiki-heroes who uploaded the first 16 books, of 16,300 pages in 2006-2007, did not upload volumes 17, 18 or 19. -Wikid77 (talk) 04:45, 28 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

28-Oct-2010: In 2009-2010, the 4th edition has been online at website Retrobibliothek.de, with each volume transcribed into modern-font computer text, rather than just the original fuzzy, Old German Fraktur font. The list of pages in MKL4 Volume 15 is on webpage:

Beyond the 1984 Macintosh, or MS Windows, obsession to use Arial font with identical glyphs for "O/0&I/1" (letters "O"/"I" & numerals zero/one), the MKL4 Fraktur font had nearly-identical glyphs for f/s, B/P, t/k & O/Q, causing translation problems when misread as incorrect words. 28-Oct-2010: I went 3 years hoping people would spot, and upload, any missing pages, but I spotted another 750 missing pages in October 2010. I have uploaded over 100 of them now. Instead of hoping, I have created test-list pages of all Meyers page-images, over 1020 page-links for each Volume, as needed to show complete uploads of all. Those list-pages are:
