Under "more images', would it be possible to include links to the Perry-Castañeda Library Map Collection, such as http://www.lib.utexas.edu/maps/ghana.html ? Flatterworld (talk) 04:11, 8 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Created

edit

The WikiAtlas page "Template:Atlas-country" was created on 13 May 2007 by former user Electionworld (who left on 21-Nov-2007), while creating a massive series of over 420 detailed Atlas pages. It is designed to format an Atlas page for a country. -Wikid77 22:08, 27 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

Parameter atlas_label_width

edit

The parameter "atlas_label_width=90px" (default: 110px) was added on 4-Sep-2007 to allow narrowing the labels for "English" & "Short name" (etc.) to allow more text at the right-hand side. By January 2009, the English Wikipedia was planning an accessibility standard to provide clean typesetting for 800x600 windows. The WikiAtlas had been designed in mid-2007 to format on larger, 1024x768 windows, and tended to stretch the text down narrow columns for 800x600 display. With wider screens, users can resize windows to widths below 1024 pixels, and even below 800px, so parameter "atlas_label_width=90x" allows more compact text wrapping for those narrowed windows. -Wikid77 22:10, 27 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

Label parameters atlas_label_language & atlas_label_religion

edit

Parameters were added (on 4-Sep-2007) to set label text:

  • atlas_label_shortname=xxx - replaces "Short name"
  • atlas_label_language=xxx  - replaces "Major language(s)"
  • atlas_label_religion=xxx   - replaces "Major religion(s)"

The intention is to allow shorter labels or force wrapping in the manner of setting the parameter "atlas_label_language=Major<br>language". Other parameters could be developed to reset other labels as well. -Wikid77 (talk) 02:21, 28 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

Table-of-Contents as thin box

edit

28-Feb-2009: The template has been changed to display the Table-of-Contents sections in a thin box with a single-line border, rather than the prior double-lined border. -Wikid77 (talk) 02:21, 28 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

Label auto-width

edit

28-Feb-2009: To provide auto-reformatting for wide/narrow windows (800x600), the template has been changed to display the label-column (for "Short name") as "20%" of the table width. Using the percentage-width allows the label column to be wider for wider windows, but then auto-wrapping when space becomes limited in narrowed windows. The auto-resizing is not just for 800x600 screens, but whenever a window is narrowed to see other windows behind it. The labels for official-name, major-languages, major-religions & more-images have been changed to auto-indent when wrapped (by using a non-breaking space "&nbsp;"):

  • atlas_label_language defaults as "Major &nbsp;languages"
  • atlas_label_religion defaults as "Major &nbsp;religions"

By January 2009, the English Wikipedia was also planning an accessibility standard to provide clean typesetting for 800x600 windows. The WikiAtlas had been designed in mid-2007 to format on larger, 1024x768 windows, and tended to stretch the text down narrow columns for 800x600-pixel display. With wider screens, users can resize windows to widths below 1024 pixels, and even below 800px wide, so the parameter "atlas_label_width=20%" allows more compact text wrapping for those narrowed windows. -Wikid77 23:48, 28 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

Compact page

edit

01-Mar-2009: The top of the Atlas page was changed to widen the 2nd column with width="70%" to allow 15% wider right-side text to fit on each line. Formerly, the top map had been surrounded by wide margins and tended to push the right-side text into a tall, narrow column. With wider right-side text, the page becomes more compact. Once the template had been changed, then all 200 atlas-country pages were auto-adjusted to display the widened right-side text. -Wikid77 (talk) 08:41, 1 March 2009 (UTC)Reply
