A White Paper to help boost your Immune Response

So let's be honest here, the fear surrounding the Covid-19 pandemic has reached pandemic proportions in and of itself.

Firstly, you're still a hundred times more likely to contract the flu this season than Covid-19.

https://www.cdc.gov/flu/about/burden/preliminary-in-season-estimates.htm

https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/cases-updates/cases-in-us.html

Secondly, if you're not following good personal hygiene and anti-flu protocols already that's why you get sick every year, not because some novel virus is afoot.

I have made the time to put together some of the tips and tricks that I use on a daily basis to avoid getting sick with the flu, which mesh precisely with methods described to avoid Covid-19. Both viruses are spread in relatively the same way. Through risky behaviour, unhygienic lifestyle and poor diet/exercise.

AVOID FEAR AND STRESS;

Limit exposure to stressful movies, television shows and video games. Limit overexposure to mass media and news sources; publications advertising to your fears, be informed but DO NOT BINGE!

TURN IT OFF! Once you realize that it's repeating itself. Trust me, someone you know will alert you of any new information that is being reported. You'll get a text or email within minutes of any new changes that are important.

Limit exposure to large crowds; Malls, bars, Big Box stores(esp. handling the displays), churches, casinos, restaurants(esp. toothpick dispensers and buffets) Use anti-bacterial hand sanitizer after running your credit card at check-out.

Government buildings of all types.

•Public Restrooms•

Limit exposure to disease concentrated areas; Hospitals, Nursing homes, Urgent care centers, Jails/Prisons, •Public Restrooms•

Please take notice that I'm not advocating complete avoidance of these places, but rather to LIMIT EXPOSURE. Use your best judgment when frequenting these places. How many do you plan to visit today? This week? This month? Of course this in not intended to be a complete list, just some ideas to help you think critically about where your going and what your doing.

Be aware of respiratory compromised individuals frequenting these locations(coughers and sneezers) and simply move away from them, DO NOT INTERACT. Standing right next to them and telling them they should be at home is by far the riskiest behaviour one could engage in. Mind your own business.

Finally if you're sick STAY HOME, get well and let someone help you gather what you need to get better. Don't expose your sickness to the public space!

PRACTICE BEST PERSONAL HYGIENE

Wash hands thoroughly(20 seconds or more with anti-bacterial soap) before leaving the house and when returning. Use a hand lotion immediately afterward to re-hydrate the natural oils stripped from your skin during washing.

Keep Your Mouth Clean; Brushing teeth, chewing ice, drinking plain water (esp. after eating and drinking)

Keep Your Domicile Clean; Use proven cleaning products(esp. in food prep areas and bathrooms)

PRACTICE GOOD DIET AND EXERCISE

Get 9 hours of sleep each night for a strong immune response.

Avoid caffeine, sugar, alcohol/recreational drugs, •SMOKING• If you must consume alcohol a glass of red wine is far more neutral to the immune system than a beer or other hops derived alcohol.

Avoid deli meats and other charcuterie, fresh or frozen unprocessed meats are best.

Avoid the buffets! (esp. during the flu season) Most of the foods served on them are loaded with sodium and your just unnecessarily increasing contact with the public.

Use your prescribed medications as directed; (esp. hypertension and cholesterol medications. High blood pressure and LDL cholesterol have serious negative impacts on immune health)

Get your flu shot it is still the best way to avoid novel flu each year!

Limit sodium intake for a healthy heart.

Limit fried foods(esp. deep fried breaded foods)

Don't radically alter your diet as this compromises your immune health. Instead add in known immune system boosting foods and supplements that you already know you can tolerate. Consult a dietician if necessary.

Increase Dietary Fiber; If your not a grain consumer use products like Benefiber to help with regularity.

Probiotics Work Wonders! Ask your dietician or other health professional which ones are best for you and why.

Get Fresh Air! A healthy oxygen intake is necessary for the body to work correctly in all aspects.

Exercise Daily to YOUR capacity; Don't over-exercise or radically alter your exercise routine as this will compromise your immune health.

If you're not already exercising daily consult a personal trainer, your physician or other health professional to help you prepare a proper routine; ease in slow.

Limit Beef Intake; (esp. when cooked rare and medium)

Limit Pork Intake; (never eat undercooked pork)

Chicken (esp. when prepared as a soup has been proven to increase immune response)

Below is a short list of foods and spices that have been proven to boost immune health.

Citrus Fruits;

Grapefruit

Oranges

Tangerines

Lemons

Limes

Clementines

Peppers; (esp. Red Bell Peppers)

Broccoli

Spinach

Kiwis

Papaya

Nuts; (esp. Almonds and Cashews)

Green Tea

Greek Yogurt

Garlic

Ginger

Turmeric

Cayenne Pepper

Be wary to moderate your intake of zinc as taking in too much daily can actually be detrimental to your immune health.

Finally, don't become a hermit. Contact with the public space is necessary for proper immune system development and human development in general. Simply be aware and informed about your exposure.

The Greeks at Delphi in the Temple of Apollo had 3 maxims to which they placed above all others. These maxims have been reiterated in nearly every religion on Earth.

Temet Nosce - Know Thyself

Ne quid nimis - Nothing in Excess

Videte quid optes - Be Careful What You Wish

Blame Google translate if I got the ancient Latin incorrect.
