Anthony s.Kalume is the editor for this page and I wish to highlight the various traditions evident within the coastal tribes of Kenya. Mijikenda (or the nine tribes) are the indigenous locals of the costal strip of Kenya. This Bantu speaking peoples are unique in that there musical style is just different from all other ethnic groups in Kenya. The fact that there are various genres within the clans and some form of dance is either used for healing,mourning,celebrating or just informing the public on day to day goings on in within the community . The Taitas,Pokomo,Borana and other coastal tribes are not part of this although they also come from the coastal region.
