Welcome to the presentation of my work on Wikipedia!

edit

About me: I am from Kiel and work professionally in the private media industry. As a reader, I have been loyal to Wikipedia for many years. I appreciate the uncomplicated and quick introduction to a topic that the encyclopedia enables. Since writing is not my thing and I am a passionate photographer anyway, I spontaneously decided at the beginning of February 2024 to make one or two photos of my inventory available to the general public. In addition, if I have the opportunity, I will also make recordings directly for Wikipedia in the future. Thanks to my years of experience and my technical know-how, I am able to create images using simple means that are not only informative but also aesthetically appealing. My goal is to enrich the Wikipedia pages on various topics, but primarily around Kiel, with meaningful images and to give readers a visual insight into these topics. I have a particular fascination for large-format panoramas, which I love to create as soon as the subject and opportunity arise. A gallery of my favorite works can be found below.

I occasionally restore existing images from the Wikimedia Commons database; there is a great need for optimization, especially in the amateur digitization of analogue photographs.

If my pictures are used, I would be happy to receive brief information. Thank you for your interest in my work!

Image production

edit

I work almost exclusively with my smartphone, both for photography and post-production. But it also happens that older recordings come from professional cameras. This is done beacuse or practical reasons, as you have your cell phone with you for recording and can spontaneously continue working on your projects while waiting. The iPhone 13 mini from Apple is used. I avoid using the standard camera for taking photos because Apple's algorithm already heavily "processes" the images in advance and gives them a look that looks like a cell phone photo. Instead, I use ProCamera. The app also enables output in DNG format (RAW) for non-Pro models. Manual settings with a low ISO value and longer exposure times are also possible, which have a positive effect on the image quality. The DNG image is then imported into Lightroom Mobile, where RAW development takes place. I avoid retouching as much as possible to maintain authenticity. If necessary, faces, license plates and other personal information are made unrecognizable in order to protect personal rights. A breakdown of this editing process of some of my images is included as a video below.

Restoration

edit

Restoration of old photos is done using Photoshop, where annoying dust and dirt are removed with the stamp tool, and color, brightness and contrast adjustments are made with the gradation curve. In addition, it may be necessary to free the photo from annoying edges by cropping it.
