Köppen-Geiger climate classification maps at 1-km resolution (version 2) edit

We present version 2 of the global maps of the Köppen-Geiger climate classification at 1-km resolution for the past (1901–2020) and future (2041–2099) conditions based on constrained CMIP6 projections. [1]

The historical maps (1901–1930, 1931–1960, 1961–1990, and 1991–2020) are based on high-resolution observation-based climatologies. The future maps (2041–2070 and 2071–2099) are based on downscaled and bias-corrected climate projections for seven shared socio-economic pathways (SSPs). A subset of 42 models was selected based on plausible CO2-induced warming rates from an initial evaluation of 67 models, enhancing accuracy and reducing uncertainties.

The global maps are available here, while the sections below organize the maps per geographic region, period, and climate types. All the maps are available at the Köppen-Geiger maps for 1901–2099 based on constrained CMIP6 projections category.

The original maps at 1-km resolution can be downloaded for free at http://www.gloh2o.org/koppen/. The maps can also be visualized using this interactive web interface.
