I mostly stroll through Wikimedia Commons looking for PNG images that need improvement. Changes I have made include:
- Optimizing poorly-encoded PNG images to losslessly reduce file size
- Re-cropping badly-cropped images
- Replacing low-resolution images with new ones from better sources
- Properly extracting images from PDFs or webpages to replace screenshotted images
