Paul Blackwood (UK) Artist and Musician 10/04/72 - 15/11/20

Paul Blackwood was born in Liverpool in the early 1970's. His family relocated to Shropshire in 1981 and he went through a childhood of kicking against the pricks. After being a GCSE guinea pig and flunking out proper, he managed to blag his way into a College of Arts and Technology (CAT) studying photography, media studies and communications. Followed by more photography at similar CAT in West Yorks. There he dropped out of a two year course, 6 weeks before finishing and spent the next two years promoting gigs and joining his first real band Millennium Sound Cruiser.

Another member of that band; Stan Mytkowski, would join Paul, Jake Mochnacz and Tim Ockenden (with occasional assistance from long time friend [Vitascope]) to become the VJ collective Reality Check. This culminated in the group having residency at Turnmills nightclub starting in 1996. After the tragic death of Tim Ockenden in 2001, the group accelerated their descent into the abyss and Reality Check 'left the building' in 2003.

Since then Paul has founded Punkvert, with better half, Funkcutter and the two have engaged in a variety of projects including film, art exhibitions, club production, radio, music projects and a record label - Ex Gratia Recordings.

Paul aka Candiflp Blackwood went missing 14th November 2020 and was found deceased six weeks later.
