Robert Meijer (1959) has a PhD of the University of Utrecht in experimental nuclear physics. Robert Meijer switched to ICT research at KPN Research (now TNO ICT) and was leading Internet, CATV, satellite, and digital video projects and deployed the first experimental ADSL infrastructure in the Netherlands. In 1996 and 2001, he was the leading designer of the Het Net and Imode internet infrastructures, resp. Robert Meijer is professor at the University of Amsterdam. His scientific interest is the next generation Internet technologies that allows dynamic adaptation of IT and telecommunication infrastructures: programmable networks Such technologies are needed in the field of large scale sensor networks. At TNO ICT he is actively developing that field through the IJkdijk initiative that develops, with 50+ companies, products for large area sensor networks for dike failures.
