About me

I am currently a postdoc in the Princeton University Psychology Department (Paluck Lab), Center for Information Technology, and Sociology. I am also a visiting scholar at the MIT Media Lab. I completed my PhD at the MIT Media Lab Center for Civic Media and my time as a fellow and affiliate at the Berkman Center at Harvard in 2017.

As founder of CivilServant, I support Wikipedians to test practical ideas for a fairer, safer, more understanding experience across Wikimedia projects.

Projects Across Wikimedia and Other Wikis

In 2015, I organized a project on Meta to create a resource guide to research on online harassment and other content moderation questions. It's due an update, so contact me if you're interested (I can be found at jmatias@princeton.edu)

I am also an active contributor on AcaWiki, where I summarize academic publications for a public audience.
