Whatever... ;)

Re: Deleted page - Index Card

Why? Was there some violation? — Preceding unsigned comment added by E.m.fields (talk • contribs) 23:26, 16. Feb. 2009 (UTC)

Yes, several. The first one, this is Commons and not Wikipedia. We don't have articles here, because this is a media repository (see COM:SCOPE). The second one, even if this would be Wikipedia, the article would not be suitable at all, because it was a clear violation of a founding principle: it had no neutrality at all. -- Cecil (talk) 07:34, 17 February 2009 (UTC)

De-adminship warning

Deutsch | Español

Dear ABF/Archive/2009/October. I am writing to you to inform you that you are in danger of losing your adminship on Commons because of inactivity.

If you want to keep your adminship, you need both to sign at Commons:Administrators/Inactivity section within 30 days of today's date, and also to make at least five further admin actions in the following six months. Anyone who does not do so will automatically lose administrator rights.

You can read the de-admin policy at Commons:Administrators/De-adminship.

Hello, ABF/Archive/2009!

Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

[[Category:Category name]]

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]
[[Category:Comets]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.
