OTRS

Hi. I'm not sure how this OTRS system works, exactly, but File:MV Atlantic Vision in Sydney.jpg appears somewhat dubious as the same picture is on display here: http://www.faktaomfartyg.se/atlantic_vision_2002_b_1.htm, copyrighted to a different author. Kjet (talk) 19:42, 14 January 2009 (UTC)

Whoops, thought I replied. I asked the person who handled the ticket... they agreed with you and asked the person who submitted it for an explanation. To be on the safe side, they also deleted the image until we figure out what happened. Cbrown1023 talk 23:14, 21 January 2009 (UTC)
Thanks for the belated reply. — Kjet (talk · contribs) 11:27, 27 January 2009 (UTC)

A favor for Milhist?

Hi!

As I see you are a Commons sysop, I was wondering whether I might ask a favor of you please. If you are unable to, I shall entirely understand :) We have just overhauled the design of the existing Milhist A-Class medal and added three more variants. For information, the new designs are as follows:

File:Mil Hist A-Class Bronze Medal (variant).png File:Mil Hist A-Class Silver Medal.png File:Mil Hist A-Class Gold Medal.png File:Mil Hist A-Class Gold Medal - Gold Oak Leaves.png

The files have already been uploaded to Commons by Noclador but we would like their names changed. I gather that only sysops can move files on the Commons: hence, my bothering you :) The idea is also to overwrite the first existing file with a new image so we don't need to manually update the awards so far distributed. Anyhow, here are the existing Commons names and the preferred file names:

Image:Mil Hist A-Class Bronze Medal (variant).png > Image:WPMH ACR.PNG
Image:Mil Hist A-Class Silver Medal.png > Image:WPMH ACR (Oakleaves).PNG
Image:Mil Hist A-Class Gold Medal.png > Image:WPMH ACR (Swords).PNG
Image:Mil Hist A-Class Gold Medal - Gold Oak Leaves.png > Image:WPMH ACR (Diamonds).PNG

Many thanks in advance for any help you can provide, --ROGER DAVIES talk 06:37, 21 January 2009 (UTC)

Hehe, I'd love to help. However, no one can move images (not even sysops, this functionality is currently in development at testwiki:). So the images just have to be re-uploaded at the correct location. Cbrown1023 talk 23:04, 21 January 2009 (UTC)

Hello, Cbrown1023!

Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

That's because someone removed the information. Cbrown1023 talk 22:58, 2 February 2009 (UTC)

OTRS permission

Hello. Months ago in October 2008 when I downloaded File:Gold animals.JPG, someone brought up the fact that I needed to clear up the copyright issue with OTRS through email. This was left on my talk page months ago:

I have replaced the No Permission template with OTRS pending. You will soon receive an email after a volunteer reads the message. When verified, you will recieve a ticket ID. Input it into PermissionOTRS when you get it, and its done. ViperSnake151 (talk) 00:23, 4 October 2008 (UTC)

As written in the email (Ticket#2008102110031143) to permissions-commons@wikimedia.org, Professor Gary Lee Todd (Professor of History, Sias International University, Xinzheng, Henan, China, his account here being User talk:Leefoxx1949, the same as his email at leefoxx1949@yahoo.com) gave me explicit and blanket permission to upload any of the over 11,500 photos from his website. I was wondering if I could use the same ticket for these pics that I have already uploaded from his site (and therefore are still pending OTRS permission...I think):

If you or someone else could clear this up, it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.--PericlesofAthens (talk) 22:44, 6 March 2009 (UTC)

(Bapti is handling this. Cbrown1023 talk 21:25, 9 March 2009 (UTC))
