Diagrams of route signs of Israel

Hello Fredddie,
Firlt, I would like to thank you for create SVG versions of Israel's route signs. However, some minor changes are needed in order to make the diagrams more accurate and to use them on Hebrew Wikipedia:

1. The color of the blue and green (and the red) diagrams isn't accruate, you can see the right shade in PNG versions (the blue shade is probably #0000FE).
2. The white margin of the diagrams is redundant, can you crop it?

Here is the source I used. https://www.gov.il/BlobFolder/policy/guidelines_planning_signs_interurban_roads/he/BeinIroniFull.pdf I have to go back and insert it into the Information templates.

1. The colors were pulled directly from the source. If you can find the official color sourced somewhere (not a probably), I will gladly change them.
2. The source (PDF page 262, it takes a while to load) clearly shows that it should have a border, so I will not change that.

1. About the margin – you right, there is a white margin but not black border (I guess that is the thing that bother me), can you remove it?
2. About the official colors – I contacted the responsible authority for official answer, They did not give me an answer yet, when they answered I would update you. However, as an Israeli citizen I can say with certainty that the colors (blue, red and green) of the route signs are more like the colors of existing diagrams, which were created also by Israeli editors that saw the route signs. –Dork105 (talk) 23:18, 30 December 2018 (UTC)

I consulted with Gonnym about the colors; he seems to think that what I did is correct. I have no real stake in what color they should or shouldn't be. I was just willing to make the graphics. –Fredddie™ 23:24, 30 December 2018 (UTC)

FWIW, the 1px black border is there so you can see the white border.

at 70px high (standard infobox height on ENWP), it's just visible enough to show you that there is a white border

at 20px high (standard junction list height on ENWP), it's not visible at all

Selecting the blue color (with a color selector app) from the PDF gave me #3832F4 and from the govmap.gov.il gave me #0030F6 (and the one Fredddie used gave me #0030F6) - so really, until we get our hands on the official color they are all pretty much okish.--Gonnym (talk) 09:38, 31 December 2018 (UTC)

Today I got an answer from Ministry of Transport about the colors, they referred me to the Israeli Standards Institute because the colors are determinied in Israeli Standard 12899. While I still have not received an answer from SII, I know that IS 12899 is similar, if not identical to the EU Standard 12899. I can also say that i found the official Israeli Signboard, and according to sign #611 (color of highway) it seems that the official colors areː #0000FE (blue), #FE0000 (red), #007E00 (green) and #000000 (black).

About the other subjectsː

I still oppose the black border because the purpose of the white margin is to seperate the number from rest of the sign. But if you think it's necessary then fine;

There are some roads without SVG version (383 for example), can you create them?

For highways with two versions (blue&red) there are 3 different filesː blue, red and combined. can you do the same here? the only problem is the files' names - because of the template that displays the road sign by filename it is crucial that all files will have the same pattern (today it's "ISR-HWXXX.png" to regular or combined, "ISR-HWXXX_blue.png" to freways and "ISR-HWXXX_red.png" to non-freeway signs (of highway that also has freeway section. --Dork105 (talk) 22:50, 9 January 2019 (UTC)

Looks really close to me. Almost like a faded road sign, heh.

For the naming scheme, the files that I created use this: ISR-FW-XXXX.svg for blue freeways and ISR-HW-XXXX.svg for all others where XXXX is the route number. Thus, we have and for Highway 1 (Israel).

As far as a combined images are concerned, I personally don't think they are necessary since you can place two images side by side or atop one another. If someone else wants to make them, go for it. –Fredddie™ 01:25, 10 January 2019 (UTC)

I'm also oppsoed to the combined versions. When used in tables or as small icons elsewhere they become meaningless as they are too small to view. Accessability is guideline (at least on en.wiki) that should be followed, so as you shouldn't use a smaller text size than 85%, you really shouldn't use a smaller image, just because you want them on top of each other (which doesn't even follow any real-life usage). --Gonnym (talk) 11:48, 10 January 2019 (UTC)

Fine, the combined version isn't necessary. I prefer the non-faded colors (it's looks much better...), so if it can be fixed (along with deletion of the black border) it will be great. Last thing, in order to complete the replacement of the files (and to edit road sign template in Hebrew Wiki) it is crusial that all current existing road signs will have SVG alternative. --Dork105 (talk) 14:48, 11 January 2019 (UTC)

Of course, I also started a duscussion in order to change the template to use these signs (the template responsible to major part of road signs' appearances). But I wonder whether we should wait for the color change before replace all the signs. --Dork105 (talk) 15:26, 11 January 2019 (UTC)

1. Create the missing signs?
2. Create only-frame version in order to replace the incorrect frames? Soon ther will be a reform of roads' numbers (many more roads and changes of numbers), and it will be much easier to create new diagrams.

Fredddie, are you sure that File:ISR-HW-000 template.svg is using the correct font or size? Compared to File:ISR-HW-999.svg the zeros seem way bigger. Similar issue with File:ISR-HW-0000 template.svg and File:ISR-HW-8967.svg. --Gonnym (talk) 09:51, 21 January 2019 (UTC)

Yeah it's right. On the templates, I leave the numbers' path open so you can edit them like a text editor. And since it's open, the servers try to display the correct font. Since they don't have Triumvirate, the server approximates it to the closest font it has, probably Sans Bold. A combination of both factors makes it look goofy. If you look at Category:Highway shield templates, they all kinda look goofy for that reason. –Fredddie™ 13:32, 21 January 2019 (UTC)

Conversion progress: All en.wiki, en.wikivoyage, de.wikivoyage, and most of pl.wiki have been converted (not including any new signs which might have been added since). Costa Rica road shield designs

Hi Fredddie, thanks for the improved design on "CR RNS 126.svg", I really like it a lot! I'm in the process of uploading the 19 Primary Routes, 130 Secondary Routes, 175 Tertiary Routes, and 1 Border Route shields of Costa Rica, as part of a project within OSM and some friends at Costa Rica Tech Institute (Full list here [1]), so I'm glad I caught your revision of the design now, and not after 300+ uploads. Can you please check also the primary routes and tertiary routes designs?

What I'm missing is the proper white outline with the thin black border in both of those. I barely know the basics of Inkscape, but I guess, better to have something in Wikimedia for the CR routes than nothing at all.

In the secondary route shield that you designed I can see that the horizontal line protrudes a little bit out of the circle, I will try to fix it to generate the other road shields.

The one and only border route 1856 doesn't have a shield design as far as I know, so I created a mockup of the route signs along the way there. [4]

If you want some tips for shields, check out w:WP:USRD/S/TUT, which I wrote a few years ago. I tried to join the horizontal line to the circle, but to be honest, I didn't try very hard. I have primary and tertiary templates on my computer, but I am not home at the present time. –Fredddie™ 16:18, 29 September 2019 (UTC)

Thanks! Just noticed the categorization (and consolidated my uploads there too) and the CR RNT 510 file, I will use it as a template too. In the secondary routes category I saw that you used many font sizes, I will try to standardize those into a single font size/style, I used some local photographs near my house of road signs to trace over, but well, to be honest the transportation ministry has a lot of different designs all over the place. I just don't know what is the standard, there is no documentation from them. --Roqz (talk) 16:43, 29 September 2019 (UTC)

Important message for file movers

A community discussion has been closed where the consensus was to grant all file movers the suppressredirect user right. This will allow file movers to not leave behind a redirect when moving files and instead automatically have the original file name deleted. Policy never requires you to suppress the redirect, suppression of redirects is entirely optional.

Possible acceptable uses of this ability:

• To move recently uploaded files with an obvious error in the file name where that error would not be a reasonable redirect. For example: moving "Sheep in a tree.jpg" to "Squirrel in a tree.jpg" when the image does in fact depict a squirrel.
• To perform file name swaps.
• When the original file name contains vandalism. (File renaming criterion #5)

Please note, this ability should be used only in certain circumstances and only if you are absolutely sure that it is not going to break the display of the file on any project. Redirects should never be suppressed if the file is in use on any project. When in doubt, leave a redirect. If you forget to suppress the redirect in case of file name vandalism or you are not fully certain if the original file name is actually vandalism, leave a redirect and tag the redirect for speedy deletion per G2.

The malicious or reckless breaking of file links via the suppressredirect user right is considered an abuse of the file mover right and is grounds for immediate revocation of that right. This message serves as both a notice that you have this right and as an official warning.
